About this class

This course is designed to teach experienced HACMP professionals the latest features in HACMP. How to: effectively administer and monitor a IBM HACMP cluster; implement HACMP's more complex advanced configuration options; carry out problem determination.

Who will the lesson benefit?

Experienced AIX system administrators and support personnel who will be responsible for the administration, maintenance and implementation of HACMP clusters on IBM System p systems running AIX.

The course is aimed at the following audience:

  • Students who want to learn the new features with HACMP v5
  • Students who wish to learn about how to implement HACMP in complex configurations
  • Students who wish to pass the IBM Certified Systems Expert HACMP v5
  • Technical leaders responsible for designing HACMP clustering solutions
Note: This course IS NOT suitable for Students with no prior knowledge of AIX/ HACMP who want to go from novice to expert in 5 days.

What delegates will learn

The objectives of this class are to review HACMP fundamental concepts, components and new features (including virtualization). Students will gain advanced information that will be vital when building and/or administering complex HA configurations.

  • Use the more complex extended path configuration options
  • Determine the status of the cluster and cluster components
  • Integrate a applications into HACMP
  • Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) v5.3 Server

  • Enhance security in a highly available cluster
  • Implement AIX IPsec VPN and HACMP message authentication and encryption
  • Perform problem determination on an HACMP cluster:Application Problems;LVM configuration problems;Networking and RSCT configuration problems;Event script problems

What prerequisites are required

Students should have experience with installing and performing standard HACMP configuration functions, which can be obtained through the following course (or equivalent experience):

  • AU54: HACMP System Administration I: Planning and Implementation
Note: AU54 is a MANDATORY prerequisite

Students should also have experience with the following skills, which are prerequisites for AU61:

  • The AIX 5L operating system.
  • Ideally, students should be certified to level IBM Certified Specialist -- eServer p5 and pSeries Administration and Support for AIX 5L V5.3 (Test 222: http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/certs/03005005.shtml) or equivalent
  • The IBM server hardware which they are using
  • The principles of good system management
  • TCP/IP Communications Concepts and Tools as covered in AU07
  • LVM Concepts and Configuration as covered in AU14, AU16, AU20
  • Knowledge of an external shared disk environment such as SCSI, Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) or FC disk subsystems; as covered in AU20, AU54.
  • Good Korn Shell script programming
