About this class

This course is designed for new users who require comprehensive training in AutoCAD Electrical software. This hands-on course focuses on how to build intelligent ladder diagrams and panel layouts, and how to leverage this intelligence. The course provides an overview of many AutoCAD Electrical utilities designed to enable users to quickly build and manage electrical-controls drawings.

Hands-on exercises throughout the course explore how to create electrical-controls production drawings. All exercises and datasets in this course are based on the IEC (international) standard.

This course is designed for the new user of AutoCAD Electrical 2008.

Examination details

On completion of the course you will be presented with an Autodesk Authorised Training Certificate, an AutoCAD Electrical Essentials Guide and Course Material.

What prerequisites are required

Working knowledge of AutoCAD is recommended and electrical drafting, design, or engineering experience is a plus. It is also recommended that the delegate have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000.

Contents of this class

The primary objective of this course is for delegates to learn the basic commands necessary for creating professional electrical-controls drawings with AutoCAD Electrical software. During the course, the delegate will cover :
  • Introduction to the course and hardware
  • Overview of AutoCAD Electrical
  • Overview of screen layout including toolbars etc
  • Starting a New Project, including look at project record cards defining numbering and cross referencing formulas
  • Starting a New Drawing, including look at drawing record cards
  • Defining Installation and Location
  • Drawing Single-phase and Multi-phase wires
  • Insertion of Symbols and Function of Components, including numbering of Wires / Components
  • Setting and numbering of Terminals
  • Cross referencing of Components and Equipotentials
  • Manipulation of the Terminal Plan
  • Assigning catalogue and record information to items in the projects, including creating new parts
  • Creating and testing new Symbols
  • Customising Title boxes
  • Viewing some of the reports generated by AutoCAD Electrical
